About the Car

The BMW M3 was BMW’s high performance variant of their 3 series cars. Although multiple variants of the BMW 3 series wore the M3 badge, the E30 series was the first, with production beginning in 1986 and continuing until 1991, when the E30 series was replaced with the E36. The E30 M3 was intended to be a homologation special built to meet production requirements of 5000 cars in order to be permitted to race the car on the track in Group A Touring. In the end, however, 17,970 cars were built. Significant changes were made to the base 3 series body for the M3 to improve aerodynamics, resulting in almost all panels being unique to the M3 along with unique brakes, upgraded suspension, and a limited slip differential. The engine was also unique to the M3 and was originally a 2.3 Liter DOHC 4 cylinder engine, though a limited production Evo3 model raised it to 2.5 liters. In Europe, the car was fitted with a dogleg gearbox, more useful in racing, with first gear being to the left and back, though north American cars were fitted with a standard shift pattern gearbox. The E30 M3 was incredibly well received and is often considered one of the best sports cars of the 1980s and one of the best driving cars of all time. This M3 has had two previous owners, spending almost all its life with the second owner, who did an incredible job looking after it. Although the car has high mileage, it is still in excellent condition. The engine was completely rebuilt in the previous ownership and upgraded to the 2.5 liter spec of the Evo3 and a European dogleg gearbox was fitted. Aside from a performance exhaust, the car shows much as if it were original, with no major visible modifications and everything in very good, clean condition, with no real visible flaws aside from a few small rock chips to reveal its age. In driving, the care of the previous owner also stands out, with the car driving and handling as if it were still new, without the rattles and squeaks common of higher mileage cars. The car performs exactly as one would hope, with great handling, a smooth engine and excellent braking. The practicality of the car coupled with its sportiness would make it a fantastic daily driven classic. It has also become one of the iconic cars for BMW, cementing their reputation for building sporty yet practical coupes and sedans.
